Arctic Skua – 16th September

This morning at about 10.00 the Bittern was seen on the Slurry Lagoon, walking along the front of the reed bed. There were also four Pintail and a Green Sandpiper present. Bittern – 2nd September

A Bittern has been seen twice this morning as it flew between the reed beds on the Slurry Lagoon. Also on the Slurry Lagoon were 41 Shoveler, a Little Egret and a Cetti’s Warbler.  Later a Clouded Yellow was seen flying along the pathway. RW. [...]

Bittern – 10th February

At about 17.00 a Bittern was seen flying the length of the Deep Pit escorted by two or three Black-headed Gulls, before it crashed into the reed bed at the same point as it did two nights ago. PS. [...]

At dusk the Bittern flew the length of the Deep Pit and crashed into a reed bed beside the northern end of the Causeway. Several Water Rail were heard calling. PS. [...]

Bittern – 1st February

This morning a Bittern was standing on the ice at the eastern end of the Deep Pit. The water is partial frozen again allowing for quite good views before it crept back into the reeds and a single Shelduck was sitting on one of the Tern Platforms. JMD. [...]

This morning a Redshank was seen on the river bank and four Tree Sparrows with Linnets and Reed Buntings, on the north east bank of the Deep Water Pit. PS In the afternoon a Cetti’s Warbler was heard calling in the Deep Pit and later a Bittern came in to roost in its usual spot. [...]

Shelduck – 26th January

There were two Shelduck on the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon and a Bittern flew across the slurry from south-east to north-west being chased by some gulls. Swimming up the river was what was possibly a White Fronted Goose.AE Later a male Cettis Warbler was heard singing from the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. PS [...]

A Bittern was seen again this morning flying across the Deep Water to land in the reeds near the northern corner. AE Later in the afternoon two Shelduck were seen on the Slurry Lagoon. RW. [...]
