At last a Cetti’s Warbler has been heard again at the lagoons. It was heard in the reed bed on the east side of the Slurry Lagoon. Eight Golden Plover were also seen, flying over. RW. [...] A Cetti’s Warbler was heard this evening in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. Hopefully they will hang on through this freeze and come out the other side. PS. [...] The Deep Pit was the most productive area at the lagoons this afternoon, with a second winter Iceland Gull staying for about an hour amongst the other Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls. A Bittern was also showing well for most of the afternoon, on and off, and was eventually seen going to roost in a [...] [...] A Cetti’s Warbler was singing quite strongly in the Deep Pit this morning. The Slurry is still frozen solid but both the Large Gravel Pit and the Deep Pit have small areas of open water in which all the birds are gathering. A few Redwing and Fieldfare in the the hawthorn bushes but [...] [...] There were good numbers of Redwing around 350-400, 50+ Fieldfare, 1 Peregrine sat on the arms of one of the pylons on Severn Trent land, over 350 E.Teal, 40+Greenfinch near Rossi’s,a single Common Snipe, 2 Water Rail, 1 Cettis Warbler calling briefly from the Deep Water Lagoon bank, 75+Goldfinch mixed in with [...] [...] During this morning’s Bird Count a male Goosander flew over the Large Gravel Pit and approximately fifty Pink-footed Geese flew west. There were good numbers of Redwings and Blackbirds and a Buzzard circled quite low over the Slurry Lagoon. The Cetti’s Warblers were heard in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and the Deep pit and [...] [...] About 70 Wigeon flew NE over the reserve this evening. As dusk approached Redwings came into the Deep Pit scrub to roost. Up to seven Water Rail were calling and three Cetti’s Warblers. As it got darker a Tawny Owl hooted. PS. [...] A Caspian Gull was spotted amongst the Great Black-backs and Herring Gulls on the Slurry Lagoon this evening. Three Cetti’s Warblers were heard and five Water Rail. There were also good numbers of thrushes, especially Redwings and Blackbirds. PS. [...] A Dunlin joined the Lapwings in their aerial manouvers over the Slurry Lagoon this evening, while up to seven Water Rail and two Cetti’s Warblers were calling. PS. [...] This morning the Tawny Owl on the bank of the Deep Pit was showing very clearly owing to the loss of leaves from the tree. Meanwhile two Cetti’s Warblers were singing on either side of the Causeway and four small Brown Rats were feeding on the table near the railway,while being serenaded by a Song [...] [...] |
