Cetti’s Warbler – 8th March

A Cetti’s Warbler was singing in the south-east corner of the Slurry Lagoon this evening. Several Water Rail were calling and one Shelduck was still present. On the Small Gravel Pit one Coot has decided spring has arrived and is sitting on a nest. PS. [...]

Little Egret – 19th February

A Little Egret flew into the eastern end of the triangular field this evening and about 100 Linnets came to roost in the Deep Pit. A Cetti’s Warbler called from the Deep Pit and two Shelduck were on the Slurry Lagoon. 33 Mute Swans also came in to roost after feeding in a rape field [...] [...]

Goosander – 15th February

A female Goosander was fishing on the Trent, and a Buzzard circled over the site this afternoon. Towards dusk 120 Greenfinches and 32 Linnets came in to roost. 34 Mute Swans came to roost on the Slurry and Deep Pits and up to 8 water Rail were calling from the reed beds. Cetti’s Warbler – 12th February

A male Cetti’s Warbler was heard this afternoon, singing from the reed bed in the Slurry Lagoon. Also a flock of about 60 Linnets came in to roost in the bushes in the Deep Pit. PS [...]

A male Cetti’s Warbler was heard singing in the SE corner of the Slurry Lagoon today. PS. [...]

Redshank – 31st January

This morning a Redshank was seen on the river bank and four Tree Sparrows with Linnets and Reed Buntings, on the north east bank of the Deep Water Pit. PS In the afternoon a Cetti’s Warbler was heard calling in the Deep Pit and later a Bittern came in to roost in its usual spot. [...]

Iceland Gull – 30th January

In the Deep Water Pit in the late afternoon a first winter Iceland Gull was spotted. Also noted were seven Water Rail, three Snipe and one or two Cetti’s Warblers in the reeds on the Slurry Lagoon. At dusk a Tawny Owl flew across the reeds in the Deep Water Pit and landed in [...] [...]

Goosander – 27th January

This afternoon a Peregrine flew from the river over the Large Gravel Pit, causing consternation amongst the Wigeon. Later a Little Egret was seen standing quietly in a corner of the same pit and towards dusk two male Goosander were also seen swimming and diving on the pit. A Cetti’s Warbler was heard calling from [...] [...]

Shelduck – 26th January

There were two Shelduck on the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon and a Bittern flew across the slurry from south-east to north-west being chased by some gulls. Swimming up the river was what was possibly a White Fronted Goose.AE Later a male Cettis Warbler was heard singing from the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. PS [...]

Bittern – 24th January

A Bittern was seen again this morning flying across the Deep Water to land in the reeds near the northern corner. AE Later in the afternoon two Shelduck were seen on the Slurry Lagoon. RW. [...]
