The Little Ringed Plover was back, displaying over the dry end of the Slurry this afternoon. Later it was seen feeding at the wet end. The pair of Yellow Wagtails were on the Causeway again and a Grasshopper Warbler was singing at the back of the Gravel Pits. PS. [...]
Today, during the patchwatch, seventy seven species of birds were recorded, including a Swift, two House Martins, three Garden Warblers, eight Lesser Whitethroats and seven Grasshopper Warblers. PS. [...]
As we watched the terns trying to drive the Black-headed Gulls from the breeding platforms, more birds arrived in ones and twos. Soon there were nine flying around and they gained the upper hand. In the distance a Jay flew through, high above the valley. Five Grasshopper Warblers are now singing and more Reed and [...] [...]
Good numbers of migrants have come in over the weekend, and there were four Grasshopper Warblers and several Reed and Sedge Warblers present. The Sand Martin numbers have reached the sixties and one or two more Swallows have arrived. During the morning a Red Kite was seen flying north, along the line if the pylons, [...] [...]
This afternoon a Little Gull was seen passing over the site with a flock of Black-headed Gulls. In the morning two Grasshopper Warblers were found and more Sedge Warblers and Whitethroats had arrived. In the afternoon there were two Wheatears on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon. RW/DM. After having picked up various passengers the two cars left Nottingham at about 8.15 am and we made our way to Whisby Nature Park near Lincoln for 9.15 am were we met up with Jack Driver. The early rain that fell on Nottinghamshire was now falling on Lincolnshire so we donned our waterproofs and set [...] [...]
Two Ringlets, two Meadow Browns, two Small Tortoiseshells, a Large Skipper and several Latticed Heaths were flying early on this morning. On the Slurry Lagoon a second brood of three Pochard ducklings had taken to the water. Two Grasshopper Warblers were singing by the Gravel Pits. PS. [...]
A Little Gull flew around the Deep Pit this evening and over the Tern Platforms before moving on to the Slurry. Also this evening a small Starling roost with perhaps 200 birds coming in to roost in the bushes and reeds. JMD. Earlier on two Grasshopper Warblers were singing on the Deep Pit banks. PS. [...]
A Whimbrel flew, calling, over the site this afternoon and a distant Hobby was seen. The Common Terns were very aggressively driving the Carrion Crows away from the precincts of the Deep Pit and a Turtle Dove flew very quickly through the site. One Grasshopper was reeling on the Deep Pit bank. PS. [...]
Two Swifts were seen this morning, flying over the site, eight Common Terns were seen over the Deep Pit, some already in pairs and more Grasshopper Warblers have arrived, there are up to seven males present now and some females have arrived. PS. [...]
