This morning at about 10.00 the Bittern was seen on the Slurry Lagoon, walking along the front of the reed bed. There were also four Pintail and a Green Sandpiper present. On the river there were five Common Sandpipers and a Curlew. RW. In the afternoon, about 15.00 all of the gulls flew up as an [...] [...]
This morning a Whimbrel flew through and there were two juvenile Little Ringed Plovers and a Green Sandpiper on the Slurry lagoon. Later two Snipe and another Green Sandpiper came in. The Pond Dipping session netted several interesting creepy crawlies and included a Three-spined Loach and a Ten-spined Stickleback. PS. [...]
Two Green Sandpipers flew, calling. over the site this afternoon. Two Yellow-legged Gulls were on the dry end of the slurry and a Green Sandpiper was at the back of the Slurry Lagoon. Later two more, or the same two, Green Sandpipers flew in from the fields, calling as they came. PS. [...]
A juvenile Little Ringed Plover and a Green Sandpiper showed cool nerves when a fox-cub popped out of the reed bed, directly behind them on the Slurry lagoon this afternoon. Neither looked in the least concerned, so the fox ducked back into the reeds again. PS. [...]
A Green Sandpiper was again feeding in the shallow water in front of the reeds on the extreme left of the Slurry Lagoon and a single Black-tailed Godwit was sleeping among the roosting ducks. Again about 600 Lesser Black-backed Gulls were divided between the wet and dry ends of the Slurry. JMD. [...]
The Green Sandpiper was heard calling early in the afternoon as it left the Slurry Lagoon. Later there were five Black-tailed Godwits feeding and resting on the Slurry Lagoon, in the shallow water. There were also about six hundred Lesser Black-backed Gulls and the female Pochard still has all three ducklings. PS. [...]
This afternoon the gull roost on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon contained three Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the Lesser Black-backs. On the wet end there was a Green Sandpiper and two Oystercatchers flew over the Deep Pit. PS. [...]
A female Pochard was seen on the Slurry Lagoon with a new brood of three ducklings today. There was also a Green Sandpiper close to the reeds. Several Brown Hawkers were seen as well as good numbers of Ringlets and Small Skippers. PS. [...]
The Green Sandpiper is still present but likes to hide behind the roosting ducks on the extreme left hand side of the Slurry Lagoon. A Little Ringed Plover tried to feed along the water’s edge but was chased away by the Common Terns. The Gadwall ducklings are doing well and have been joined by a [...] [...]
An adult Med Gull was preening for some time on the Slurry Lagoon late afternoon. Also present was a Black-tailed Godwit and a Green Sandpiper plus an adult Little Ringed Plover. The Gadwall reported the other day with eleven ducklings has increased her brood to an incredible fourteen! JMD. [...]
