A Peregrine was seen this afternoon, catching a Redwing and carrying it to a pylon to eat. There was a large flock of Teal on the Deep Pit, possibly over 400, and a flock of 73 Lapwings joined them to rest on the ice. Four Meadow Pipits and a Yellowhammer were also seen. PS. [...]
There were good numbers of Redwing around 350-400, 50+ Fieldfare, 1 Peregrine sat on the arms of one of the pylons on Severn Trent land, over 350 E.Teal, 40+Greenfinch near Rossi’s,a single Common Snipe, 2 Water Rail, 1 Cettis Warbler calling briefly from the Deep Water Lagoon bank, 75+Goldfinch mixed in with [...] [...]
A Peregrine flew to a pylon near the railway line this morning and rested for about twenty minutes, giving good views through a telescope. PS. [...]
A Little Egret was seen this morning in the large willow tree beside the Large Gravel Pit. It later flew to the dead ash trees beside the Slurry Lagoon but was chased back to its previous perch by a Carrion Crow. A Tawny Owl was found at its roost in the Deep Pit by several [...] [...]
This morning three Cetti’s Warblers were heard, two singing and one calling. A Kingfisher was seen in the Ouse Dyke.AE. [...]
This morning a Peregrine flew over carrying a pigeon, while on the river bank a good view of a Stoat was obtained which was being shadowed by a small flock of Song Thrushes and several Magpies. Later a Kestrel and a Sparrowhawk were seen, and also 10 Golden Plover were on the slurry. AE [...]
During the ‘Patchwatch’ a Caspian Gull was tentatively identified on the Slurry Lagoon. Also present was a Dunlin, two Green Sandpipers, three Jays and the Pintail. There were still several species of warbler in evidence and a light passage of Skylarks and Meadow Pipits was noted. The Peregrine was seen again and two skeins of [...] [...]
In the late afternoon a Peregrine flew low over the Slurry Lagoon, panicking all the birds below. The ducks flew out to the centre of the lagoon and floated in a raft. Amongst them was swimming a Black-tailed Godwit. The Peregrine had a tail feather projecting about one third of its length beyond the rest [...] [...]
A Green Sandpiper and Redshank were seen amongst the Black-headed Gulls and Lapwings on the Slurry Lagoon. All of the birds were flushed, first by a Hobby and then by a Peregrine. The Common Sandpiper was still finding food on the Tern Platforms. [...]
A Peregrine falcon again upset Lapwings and Gulls on the slurry this morning. After a couple of flights around it flew away in the direction of Stoke Bardolph. [...]
