Caspian Gull – 16th November

Amongst the gulls roosting on the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon an adult Caspian Gull was found, as well as a Yellow-legged Gull. There were twelve White-fronted Geese which circled the lagoon before coming down across the river to land with the goose flock. White-fronted Goose – 15th November

This evening, as the Grey-lag and Canada Geese flew in to roost on the Slurry Lagoon, a softer, more musical note was heard amongst the other, more raucous calls. Five, smaller geese came in and landed. In the poor light the white blaze of a White-fronted Goose could be seen on one of them, but [...] [...]

Rock Pipit – 7th November

A Rock Pipit paused briefly on the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon, where there were also three Dunlins and a Little Egret and later, an adult Yellow-legged Gull. The Pintail is still on the Large Gravel Pit. RW. [...]

Mediterranean Gull – 3rd November

The gull roost contained a first winter Mediterranean Gull and an adult Yellow-legged Gull this afternoon. Several Water Rails were heard or seen across the site, as were hunting Sparrowhawks. One Sparrowhawk was seen to fly into the Starling roost causing them to move across the Slurry Lagoon to another reed bed. As the light [...] [...]

Spotted Flycatcher – 21st September

This afternoon there were two Spotted Flycatchers seen along the Ouse Dyke. One of them caught a Speckled Wood. A Wheatear was seen still on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon and the two Pintail and a Yellow-legged Gull were on the wet end. [...]

Wheatear – 20th September

This morning there were two Wheatears on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon, amongst the Coltsfoot.  At the other end there was a Yellow-legged Gull and two Pintail are still present. RW. [...]

Greenshank – 22nd August

This afternoon the Swallows and House Martins were gathered on the wires by the railway bridge when they all took off in alarm as a Hobby made an appearance. They all flew together and kept above and behind it, some making stoops to drive it away. The Hobby seemed unconcerned, making a couple of stoops [...] [...]

Whimbrel – 12th August

During the course of the afternoon three separate Whimbrels flew through the site, going south. There were also a Ringed Plover and a juvenile Little Ringed Plover on the Slurry Lagoon.The flock of Lesser Black-backed Gulls contained a Yellow-legged Gull, and several Yellow Wagtails flew through. In the Deep Pit at least two, possibly four, [...] [...]

Green Sandpiper – 21st July

Two Green Sandpipers flew, calling.  over the site this afternoon. Two Yellow-legged Gulls were on the dry end of the slurry and a Green Sandpiper was at the back of the Slurry Lagoon. Later two more, or the same two, Green Sandpipers flew in from the fields, calling as they came. PS. [...]

Yellow-legged Gull – 13th July

This afternoon the gull roost on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon contained three Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the Lesser Black-backs. On the wet end there was a Green Sandpiper and two Oystercatchers flew over the Deep Pit. PS. [...]
